Case Study – The Blue & Green Book Machine
Client – Troubadour Ltd
Start Date – 26th July 2004

Brief
As part of a project business plan, our client Troubadour Ltd, are planning to have a number of branded and highly visible mobile book libraries visiting schools throughout the UK. With this is mind; Raccoon Digital Graphics were assigned the task of producing the first ‘test’ vehicle. With high impact graphics supplied by an outside design agency, we had to ensure that the design carried over to the vehicle in question, a modified LDV Convoy, high roof van, and that the detailed design did not loose any of its impact or definition.

Specification
Materials
Once the vehicle was surveyed, and the needs of the client taken into account, we opted for a long life highly conformable wrap film without a gloss finish laminate to protect the printed graphics from damage caused by abrasion, cleaning, petrol spills etc.

Production All printing was carried out on our ‘PHOTO X’ print system. The wide gamut inks used meant the original design was accurately reproduced, with vibrant primary colours throughout.

Installation All fitting was carried out at our Edenbridge, Kent factory, with the ten vehicles delivered by car transporters. Our team of vehicle wrap experts took five days to fit all of the graphics, and did an excellent job. All exterior trim, including lights, grilles and badges were removed and then re-fitted to ensure a perfect job. We even managed align the rear of the design with the sides, creating a continuous landscape around the entire van.

Challenges The main challenge of the project was ensuring both print quality and durability requirements were met. By using a long term wrap film, coupled with full solvent inks and a protective laminate no area of the wrap was compromised. Attention to detail on the application of the graphics will ensure that the graphics look as good in a year’s time as they did when fitted.

Client Response Upon delivery of the van, Gareth of Troubadour called to say how impressed he was with the end result. The original design had been faithfully reproduced and carried over to the shape of the LDV van, with even the roof covered in sky blue!
