Raccoon was ‘proper’ excited to be approached by London based event agency Bearded Kitten to help with their latest campaign. We do love a challenge and who can refuse the prospect of nailing the brand production for a 33ft cement mixer?!
Popcorn brand Propercorn toured the UK in a 33-foot pink cement mixer – dubbed the "Propermixer" – to distribute 150,000 packs of popcorn. The tour kicked off in London and visited Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham.
Propercorn’s founder, Cassandra Stavrou, said the use of the cement mixer was a nod to the brand’s origins. Stavrou created her first batches of popcorn by using a car-spraying kit to coat the corn with oil, before tumbling them in a refashioned cement mixer. "The humble cement mixer has become a real emblem for Propercorn and of the resourceful and creative approach we’ve taken since day one," Stavrou said. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our team’s different way of thinking and continued passion for popcorn than with a nationwide road trip in the Propermixer."
So how did Raccoon transform the Propermixer? We love bringing an idea to life, and the whole team got on board with this one. Our production team printed around 75 metres of vinyl to cover the whole cylindrical mixer and all its intricate elements. Some of this already had the signature popcorn pattern printed on it, whereas other areas required individual popcorn kernels to be created for application afterwards. These overlays were contour cut on our Zund finishing machine. We chose an Arlon vinyl that would work perfectly with the temporary nature of the campaign (and the fact that it would all need to be removed afterwards), and the contouring of the mixer. The gloss lamination added the ‘pop’ for a stunning finished result.
Raccoon’s wrapstars were out in force during the 5 day install. The team covered a lot of detail including the wrap of the cab, water tank, rotating mixing drum, the hopper and discharge chute. Even the hub caps on the wheels got a makeover…
Once our transformation team were done, it was time for the Propermixer to hit the road and wow the fans. During the tour, fans were encouraged to share photos of the Propermixer for the chance to win a year’s supply of popcorn. They could also make requests for the vehicle to stop in certain places via Instagram Stories’ poll feature.
